Brief
Nestled in a leafy pocket of Sydney’s Bellevue Hill, Butterfly House had a primary objective of providing sanctuary, well being and tranquillity for our Clients family. A site with no expansive external views, Stafford Architecture produced a design which would provide its own shifting internal vistas all connecting to the surrounding landscape.
The scope was for a double storey new build with pool and we were graced with an uncomplicated level site to build upon. .
Outcome
Juxtaposed forms of solid block structures and softer curved sections provided a dual sense of solidity and comfort. A series of operable timber screening clad the front block structure and provides privacy, light and ventilation for the home. Internally a glass light well creates a central spine extending through the home and provides a visual transition between the various zones of the home.
Though the house appears to be grounded in a permanent shape the use of operable louvres, courtyards, timber and glazed screening presents ever shifting aspects within the home. Utilising a pared back palate of dependable materials such as stone, concrete, timber and metal created uncomplicated visual harmony throughout the home promoting a sense of rest and calm.
We were able to achieve a seamless outcome for both client and architect with a home much enjoyed by its occupants and awarded for its design within its local community.
